June 16, 2012The Grand Canal, Venice, Italy
I’m not sure that I’ll ever be able to aptly verbalize what it feels like to arrive in Venice. I can say, with complete sincerity, that for me it feels like coming home. Seeing the domes of Salute growing near as the taxi approaches San Marco, my heart swells and I can only smile. I love this city with every fiber of my being.

May 6, 2012Los Angeles County Music of Art, Los Angeles, California
I saw this little tricycle chained just outside of LACMA as we were leaving for the night. I assume it must be some kind of gimmick attached to the museum, but I’m not sure whether or not it actually is. Either way, the fact that had this big chain locking it to the bike post was just too adorable to pass up.
I had no tripod, so I plopped myself down on the concrete, but my camera was too front heavy to get the shot. Ashlyn loaned me the 50 Year Calendar I’d gotten her at the Griffith Observatory to prop up my lens and I was able to hit the little bit of long exposure I needed to get it right.

Ever since I first heard about the Neon Boneyard in Vegas, I’ve wanted to visit. I’ve planned it several times, but never actually followed through until this month. I not only got to visit Las Vegas, but also drove through Joshua Tree en route to Los Angeles (thanks to my awesome @vorpal_pen). More pics to follow, but for now, click here to visit the full set from my two days in Las Vegas.

The leftover dental equipment at Letchworth Village stands in a pitch black room, surrounded by decay. Learning about the history of this place has given these lingering details a much more ominous presence.

It’s amazing how nature sometimes adapts to its surroundings. Maybe adapt is the wrong word. Reclaim, perhaps, is more appropriate.

September 25, 2010Cimitero di Staglieno, Genoa, Italy
Recently, someone asked me why I like to cemeteries. Is it because it’s dark and morbid? Because it’s melancholy and sad? What is it?
I thought about it for a moment and what I’ve come up with is that they’re art. It’s pretty simple, I suppose. I wouldn’t go to a cemetery without a camera. It’s a visual thing. I like the monuments - their expressions, their poses, their corroded textures. They make for dynamic compositions. That’s all.
