November 17, 2012Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, New York I first photographed Woodlawn back in the summer of 2010 and was lucky enough to have one of those photos selected to be a part of an exhibit at Lehman College Art Gallery. A friend and I decided to revisit the cemetery shortly after Hurricane Sandy hit New York. Downed trees were scattered all over the place - massive trees, literally bowed over and split, creating arches and barricades and gaping holes in the landscape. The cemetery held onto its beauty, however. Kept its residents safe, I suppose.

June 16, 2012The Grand Canal, Venice, Italy I’m not sure that I’ll ever be able to aptly verbalize what it feels like to arrive in Venice. I can say, with complete sincerity, that for me it feels like coming home. Seeing the domes of Salute growing near as the taxi approaches San Marco, my heart swells and I can only smile. I love this city with every fiber of my being.

May 6, 2012Los Angeles County Music of Art, Los Angeles, California I saw this little tricycle chained just outside of LACMA as we were leaving for the night. I assume it must be some kind of gimmick attached to the museum, but I’m not sure whether or not it actually is. Either way, the fact that had this big chain locking it to the bike post was just too adorable to pass up. I had no tripod, so I plopped myself down on the concrete, but my camera was too front heavy to get the shot. Ashlyn loaned me the 50 Year Calendar I’d gotten her at the Griffith Observatory to prop up my lens and I was able to hit the little bit of long exposure I needed to get it right.

We printed out a map from Google, followed the directions exactly, and wound up on a private beach in Southold. Best surprise wrong directions ever. We did eventually get to the vineyards, but the beach was a really awesome stop along the way. I keep wanting to go back to it.
